I can so relate to these pics by West Philly-based photographer Isaac Schell. My favorites are the storefront churches, making the best of it.

Coinciding with the 75th Birthday of Brigitte Bardot on 28th September 2009, the James Hyman Gallery in London presents an exhibition of vintage photographs by some of the most famous paparazzi photographers of the 1960s.  The collection of Bardot snaps is enough to make my head spin.  Here’s to the grande dame of JROBS (Just-Rolled-Out-of-Bed-Sexy)

These everyday New York City images by Yoanne Lemoine are what my world looked like as a kid growing up in Queens. It’s funny how this French chick is so into this stuff. These photographs capture all the things that made me desperate to get away, but now feel kind of bittersweet. Europeans are always obsessed with things like this.

She also made a bunch of videos about “young New Yorkers” – none of whom are from New York. Not so into those.

Photographer Erwin Olaf has received a lot of attention for his Grief series. These images of women in “grief-striken” moments are definitely striking. But most of all I love his more beautiful, yet uncomfortably “inappropriate” work. It actually makes me squirmy, in an interesting way. The Mind of their Own series of portraits of children and adults with what appears to be Down’s Syndrome is riveting. I also adore the Royal Blood collection and portraits of Slovaks in his ProductPhotography for Borek Sipek. Olaf’s work has been commissioned for big brands from Levi’s to Microsoft, and Nokia, but his personal work, of course, is his best. Some of the nudes in on his site in the Chessmen and Squares series are definitely beyond my comfort zone but I have to stare at them anyway.

Adam Wallacavage is a ridiculously gifted sculptor and photographer from Philadelphia. I don’t even know where to begin with this guy, he is a tremendous talent in a variety of mediums.
