This Spring fashion designer Zac Posen unveils his first residential project with 16W21, a boutique development in the beaux arts Ladies Mile district of New York City.

Once again, my love of interiors and collaboration has been satiated through the working with the Zac Posen team, the media, creative agency Imagination – who was charged with developing a brilliant advertising campaign (to come), and real estate development firm Gruppo C’E. The physical structure and magnificent façade are the work of superstar architect Morris Adjmi who is responsible for a few little projects like The Prudential Center Sports Arena, The Publicis and Scholastic Inc. headquarters in New York, the ABC headquarters in Burbank, California and a host of other luxury residential and commercial properties in cities around the globe. The combination of Morris’ technical prowess with Zac’s razor sharp fashion sense is seeming like a marriage made in real estate heaven. This project has been quite an exciting adventure to date, as I complete the communications and launch event strategy with this amazing team.

Opening to the public for sales mid-March, here’s a taste of what’s to come from the press…

I wasn’t named after Pam Ewing, although I might as well have been. My mother was obsessed with Dallas and we watched it together every Sunday night for the series’ entire 13-year run. Southfork’s goings-on saw me from footed cartoon PJ’s into early 90’s Pat Fields catsuits. From babbling toddler to sarcastic teenager. Although I watched the show religiously, I quietly resented the gorgeous, rich and stylish wife of Bobby Ewing, knowing I would never be a worthy namesake. Given our weekly ritual, I spent hours of my formative years wondering what it would be like to be the Neiman-Marcus-shopping, Norma-Kamali-clad Texan beauty with the perfect blowout.

I recently came across these TV stills of Pam looking the kind of perfect that used to make me feel hopeless. I give you Mrs. Ewing, looking fresh and current as ever.

Opened in 1921 by Helen and Ed Power, the Nut Tree was, according to the press, a “culinary and curio oasis in a desert of endless roadway.” With furniture commissioned from Charles Eames and artwork by Wayne Thiebaud the restaurant was light years ahead of its Pacific Standard Time – every detail from the furniture the the dishware to the way the food was presented was art-directed by Don Birrell, the Nut Tree’s head designer from 1953 to 1990. ”We had a master plan for everything, from the design of the billboards to landscape architecture, interior design to the way food was arranged on the plate,” Birrell says. “We wanted to create a certain feeling, make people remember us.”

Credited as a visionary forerunner of California cuisine, the Nut Tree served up “heaping portions of comfort food with the freshest fruits and vegetables… Every meal came with a loaf of freshly baked bread along with the ubiquitous mound of cottage cheese or potato salad.”

The technicolor foodie-land brought in the celebrities in droves – Herbert Hoover scarfing up some turkey tamales shortly after losing the presidential election in 1932, and Humorist Will Rogers dined and Bing Crosby making pit stops on their road trip. The kitchen staff also catered Queen Elizabeth’s 1983 state luncheon with the Nut Tree staff brewing 50 types of tea in ornate pots so that the Queen could choose her favorite.

By 1990, The Nut Tree finally succumbed to suburban sprawl and competition by every other roadside chain, but you can still check out a the historic eye candy on this Vacaville, Ca. website.
