The Other Pamela

Dallas-Pam-Ewing-Pam-Bristow

I wasn’t named after Pam Ewing, although I might as well have been.  My mother was obsessed with Dallas and we watched it together every Sunday night for the series’ entire 13-year run.  Southfork’s goings-on saw me from footed cartoon PJ’s into early 90’s Pat Fields catsuits.  From babbling toddler to sarcastic teenager.  Although I watched the show religiously, I quietly resented the gorgeous, rich and stylish wife of Bobby Ewing, knowing I would never be a worthy namesake.  Given our weekly ritual, I spent hours of my formative years wondering what it would be like to be the Neiman-Marcus-shopping, Norma-Kamali-clad Texan beauty with the perfect blowout.

I recently came across these TV stills of Pam looking the kind of perfect that used to make me feel hopeless.  I give you Mrs. Ewing, looking fresh and current as ever.

DECODENCE!

This month sees the opening of DECODENCE: Legendary Interiors and Illustrious Travelers Aboard the SS Normandie. Given my passion for all things early twentieth century, it’s been a total joy to work on developing this project with the Seaport Museum!

For those of you who don’t pore over out-of-print decorative arts textbooks and google things like “Japanning techniques” and “lost Jean Henri Riesener pieces”, the SS Normandie was a magnificent ocean liner and the pride of the French Line in the 1930’s.   Get the whole story »

Channeling Talitha

Talitha_Getty_Pam_Bristow

Since I returned from Morocco, I’ve been wearing only dramatically embroidered caftans around the house. While my sons barely notice their mother in her “channeling Talitha Getty” time warp, my daughter thinks it’s fabulous (I bought her a few mini-versions) and I’ve never felt more comfortable or glamorous while returning emails.

A little worried about what I’ll do now that fall is rolling around – maybe a little number like the one from Lacroix’s last show…

Flyer Than Fly

japan_hermes_helicopter

Pass the smelling salts… Japan recently introduced the Hermés Shuttle.  The service will provide a 30-minute luxury helicopter shuttle service between central Tokyo and Narita International Airport.  The four passenger helicopter will take about 22 flights a day and charge approximately $790 for a one-way trip.  And yes, it has Toile H fabric interiors.

Love the idea of football pants for girls… would love a vintage pair with a tank top or shrunken sweater and little heels for fall…  so cute.
