Hot to Trot…

I feel immorally covetous about the Globe-Trotter series of travel cases.

The brand was established in 1897 by Englishman, David Nelken and doesn’t come with a very shabby client list… Globe-trotter has outfitted world-class adventurers including Captain Robert Falcon Scott, who traveled with Globe-Trotter on the infamous Antarctic expedition in 1912. Sir Winston Churchill used a Globe-Trotter Dispatch Case during his position as Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1924. H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth II chose Globe-Trotter for her honeymoon luggage in 1947 (and continues use her cases to this day). Sir Edmund Hilary ascended to first base camp with Globe-Trotter during his conquest of Everest in 1953.  ’Nuff said.

Temple Worship

Designing the Elite Enclave pavilion at the Luxury at JCK fine jewelry show is Las Vegas has been quite the experience.  With a background in fashion, art, and interior design, I never thought my coveting could get any more costly.  Enter Temple St. Clair, a fabulous collection of amulets and other assorted baubles…  and a major culprit in making my significant other’s life a little trickier.

Pass the Passementerie

I’ve always loved tassels. I’m working on an environmental design project where we’ve sourced some stunningly-beautiful-slash-obnoxious 18-inch beauties to tie back some luxe velvet drapes. Here are a few wearable versions I’ve fallen in love with lately…

Got Game?

Marlin_Pam_Bristow

This is what Valentine’s Day gifts look like around these parts. How I find things like this romantic, only those very close to me would understand.  Suffice to say my recent and plentiful meals at the John Dory Oyster Bar have brought mounted game fish even closer to my heart.  A few great finds including a great vintage Beam’s Choice bottle to add to my collection

Hardcover Lover

Olympia_Le-Tan_Pam_Bristow_1Gorgeous minaudiéres made to look like classic hardcover books by Olympia Le-Tan from her collection “You Can’t Judge a Book By Its Cover”.

The covers are recreated in a playful  felt trompe l’oeil which from a distance are pretty indistinguishable from the real thing – save for the sweet golden clasp!  Titles include For Whom the Bell Tolls, Moby Dick, Catcher in the Rye, 1984, and Winner Take Nothing.

Le-Tan also made a little suite of tiny leather “boîtes” with her own cover designs. The latest collection “Ce N’est Pas La Fin du Monde” (“It’s Not the End of the World”) features Alduos Huxley’s Brave New World. Apparently she is also looking into making bags from vintage globes and old maps.

Word is the purses have inspired a Spike Jonze film collaboration…

Available at Bookmarc in NYC.

Train Case Class Trip

The hard-sided train case wins first prize for “chicest-yet-most-idiotically-cumbersome-and-unnecessary-female-thing-to-carry”. Ahh… music to my ears… By the way, what ever happened to these?

My mom had the most fabulous chalky blue one that she got in the divorce in 1978. It still had my dad’s initials engraved on it (which were the same as mine) and I think that’s why she never gave it away. Needless to say I have soft spot in my heart for these.

I recently scooped up a baby pink polka dot one for our little girl at Claw Money‘s backyard garage sale in City Island (Thanks Claudia!). She keeps her miniature horses in it, which is the perfect use for it, really. Some great vintage ones here… Get the whole story »
